Q: What are the guidelines for pharmacists on child-resistant packaging?

A: The North Carolina Board of Pharmacy frequently receives queries from pharmacists on whether or not the unit dose packaging that is dispensed to outpatients is considered “child resistant.” Based upon the need to provide information to pharmacists on the child resistant nature of unit dose packaging dispensed to outpatients, the Board requested the assistance of Campbell University School of Pharmacy Department of Clinical Research to evaluate the matter.
