Q. Are pharmacies required to have a quality assurance plan?

A. Yes. By statute, all pharmacies “shall establish or participate in” a QA program to evaluate:

• The quality of the practice of pharmacy
• The cause of medication errors and incidents
• Pharmaceutical care outcomes
• Possible improvements for the practice of pharmacy
• Methods to reduce medication errors and incidents
