Frequently Asked Questions on License/Registration/Permit Renewals

Q:  When is the renewal period?

A:  The renewal season starts on November 1st of every year and ends on December 31st of every year.

Q:  Is there a grace period to renew?

A:  Yes. For Pharmacists, Technicians, Dispensing Physicians, and PA/NPs there is a grace period of 60 days past the December 31st deadline which ends on March 1st of the following year.

For Pharmacies and DME’s there is a grace period of 60 days past the December 31st deadline which ends on March 1st of the following year.  In addition, there is also a 30 day period, which ends on March 31st, when you can submit a late renewal by mail for an additional fee.

Q:  What does “grace period” mean?

A:  Grace period means that you can renew online during that time with no penalty.

Q:  How do I log in?

A:  Go to our website, www.ncbop.org, and click on your specialty from the green menu and click on LOG IN.  You will then be instructed to enter in your license or registration or permit number and your PIN number.  Once you’re logged in, click on RENEW and follow the instructions.

Q:  What is my PIN number?

A:         Pharmacist: Last 4 digits of your social security number
            Technician: Last 4 digits of your social security number
            Dispensing Physician: Last 4 digits of your NC Medical License number
            PA/NP: Last 4 digits of your Social Security number
            Pharmacy:  Last 4 digits of the current pharmacy permit number
            DME:  Last 4 digits of the Person-In-Charge’s Social Security number

Q:  What is the cost of renewing my license/registration/permit?

A:         Pharmacist: $135
            Technician: $30
            Dispensing Physician: $150
            PA/NP: $75
            Pharmacy: $200
            DME: $200

Q:  What methods of payment does the Board accept for renewals?

A:  The Board accepts MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and American Express for renewals.

Q:  Can I print a duplicate renewal certificate?

A:  Yes.  LOG IN through our website and click on CERTIFICATE.

Q:  Can I print a duplicate renewal receipt?

A:  Yes.  LOG INthrough our website and click on RECEIPT.

Q:  Do I have to print my renewal on white paper/in color?

A:  We recommend you use white paper to print your renewal, but it is not required.

Q:  I don’t have a printer (or my printer is broken), can you mail me my certificate?

A:  No.  It is your responsibility to print your own certificate by some means.

Q:  Can you print my renewal and mail it to me?

A:  No.  You are required to print your own renewal.

Q:  Can I mail in or fax in my renewal?

A:  No.  Online renewal through our website is mandatory.

Q:  I’ve lost my certificate; can you mail me a copy?

A:  No.  You need to LOG IN through our website and print another copy.

Q:  What happens if I don’t renew my license or registration?

A:  If you don’t renew your license (Pharmacist) or your registration (Technician, Dispensing Physician, PA/NP) then you will become INACTIVE in our database and you are no longer allowed to work in your field.

Q:  What happens if I don’t renew my permit?

A:  If the Pharmacy or DME permit is not renewed then it will be closed and the permit is no longer allowed to do business.
