Wesley Hickman

Term: May 1, 2026 to April 30, 2031

My name is Wesley Hickman and I am the owner and pharmacy manager of Hickman’s Pharmacy in Leland, NC. I am a proud graduate of the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, where I earned my PharmD in 2005. My pharmacy career began at age 16 as a cashier with Revco in Shallotte, NC. Over the past three decades, I’ve witnessed the profession evolve from a traditional dispensing role to one that fully embraces our expanded clinical expertise. These changes and the challenges that accompany them fueled my desire to serve on the Board.

Beyond my practice, I remain deeply involved in advancing pharmacy and public health. I serve on the Board of Directors for Pharmacists United for Truth & Transparency (PUTT), where I advocate for meaningful PBM reform nationwide. I have worked directly with Members of the General Assembly of North Carolina as well as with Representatives of the US Congress to help craft meaningful legislation that not only protects patient access to affordable prescriptions, but highlights imbalances in the way pharmacists are currently reimbursed for their work. Locally, I served on the Brunswick County Substance Use and Addiction Commission for 5 years, where we successfully advocated for the establishment of a new inpatient treatment facility. I have also been the pharmacist advisor for the Brunswick County Drug Treatment Court for more than a decade.

I live in Leland with my wife, Ashley, and our son, Will, along with our two dogs—Jordan (a Goldendoodle) and Zellie (a rescue Rotti-doodle)—who keep life lively at home. In my freetime, I enjoy kayaking around Masonboro Sound and catching an occasional fish. I am also an amateur astrophotographer and fan of all things related to the space program.

I firmly believe that government functions most efficiently when all members of society are engaged and vocal, so please feel free to reach out to me anytime with any issues you see in the profession that you feel the Board can impact. I will do my absolute best to serve the interests of the citizens of this state.
