Haywood Rhodes, PharmD, MEd, BCPS

Haywood began his career in pharmacy at Rite Aid as pharmacy school intern.  He continued to work at Rite Aid after graduation from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy in 2009.  He then transitioned to WakeMed Health & Hospitals in Raleigh as a clinical staff pharmacist.  While there, he worked in different areas including sterile products, central distribution, and in a decentralized role providing direct patient care primarily in cardiology.  Haywood was also part of the team that initiated discharge medication reconciliation and counseling for patients at risk for readmission.

After almost six years with WakeMed, Haywood took the opportunity to work closer to home and be a part of the team that opened a new hospital and pharmacy.  The challenges and unique learning opportunities of working as a pharmacist at UNC Hospitals Hillsborough Campus have been rewarding, and he appreciates the operational, clinical, and logistical challenges involved with such a new endeavor.

Prior to his career as a pharmacist, Haywood was a high school science teacher.  As a pharmacist, he has enjoyed the opportunity to teach and give back to the profession by precepting pharmacy students from Campbell and UNC.  He attended his first Board of Pharmacy meeting as a student and has been interested in serving on the board since then.  Haywood is excited about how pharmacy is changing and looks forward to serving to protect public health and promote policies that advance pharmacy in a dynamic healthcare environment.

Haywood currently serves on the Orange County Parks and Recreation Council and in his spare time enjoys beekeeping, gardening, and disc golf.  Haywood and his wife, Virginia, reside in Hillsborough with their twin boys, Matthew and Jonah.

Please vote for Haywood Rhodes.

Keith is the owner and pharmacist manager of Lewisville Drug Company, a Mutual Drug independent pharmacy located in Lewisville, NC.   A 2002 graduate of the Campbell University School of Pharmacy, Keith has over 27 years’ total experience in community pharmacy.  His first job was as a delivery driver for his cousin’s independent pharmacy near his hometown of Logan, WV.   It was then that he began to see the impact that a pharmacist could have on a person’s life, and how it came to be known as one of America’s most trusted professions.   That part-time job has turned into a career where he still feels that pharmacists can and do make an indelible impact on patient’s lives.

Keith has served his community as a pharmacist for almost 14 years.  Upon graduation, he worked for Bi-Lo Pharmacy and Wal-Mart Pharmacy in the Winston-Salem, NC area.   In 2005, Keith, along with his wife Sara, opened Lewisville Drug Company.   Their goal was to do to what Keith had seen at his first job in an independent pharmacy, provide excellent care to their patients and be a positive influence in their community.

In addition to his duties at Lewisville Drug, Keith serves on the Mutual Drug Retail Advisory Committee and is a member of the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) and the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists (NCAP).   Keith is a member of Old Town Baptist Church, where he has served as a deacon, on various committees, Sunday School teacher, and as one of the organizers of the Old Town Medical Clinic, which includes serving as one of pharmacists for the clinic.  He also co-hosts an “Ask the Pharmacist” monthly radio show on WSJS 600 AM/101.3 FM in Winston-Salem.

Keith lives in Lewisville, NC with his wife Sara (a pharmacist at Novant Health Oncology Services) and their boys, Riley (7) and Andrew (4).

“If elected to serve as a member of the Board of Pharmacy, my goals are simple:  To serve with integrity, to be transparent, to be fair, and to represent all North Carolina pharmacists to the best of my abilities.  Our profession is rapidly changing, and the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy has always been a progressive, forward-thinking body.  If elected, I would be honored to continue that tradition.  I respectfully ask for your vote.”
